## Context

The previous fee model relied on discounts and manual cash adjustments, limiting incentives to card processing, creating retroactive accounting work, and making offer application and remaining balances difficult for users to track. A global system also needed to handle different tax treatments and avoid confusing virtual credits with real user funds.

## Approach / What changed

Stripe built Fee Credits around a standalone gRPC credits engine, logical financial accounts extending the existing Money Movement and Storage platform, and fee-settlement orchestration. Logical-to-real transfers are rejected, logical accounts are isolated from cash sweeps, and separate accounting flows handle prepaid versus Stripe-funded credits.
