title: "Teen rides return to Los Angeles"
description: "Uber for teens is now available in Los Angeles, allowing teens to request their own rides while guardians can book rides on their behalf. The service lets guardians track trips live, sends realtime notifications, pairs teens with highly rated drivers, and keeps PIN verification and RideCheck enabled for every ride. Guardians and teens can also message the driver in a shared group chat, while on-demand pickups and dropoffs must remain within the designated service area; Reserve trips remain available outside it. To book, a guardian selects “Where to?”, changes the rider from “For me” to the relevant teen, and chooses “Uber for teens.” Trips to or from airports cannot currently be requested."

## Summary

Uber for teens is now available in Los Angeles, allowing teens to request their own rides while guardians can book rides on their behalf. To book, a guardian selects “Where to?”, changes the rider from “For me” to the relevant teen, and chooses “Uber for teens.” Trips to or from airports cannot currently be requested.

## Context

Uber for teens has launched in Los Angeles, with on-demand trips limited to pickups and dropoffs inside the designated service area. Reserve trips can still be requested outside that area, and airport trips are currently unavailable.

## Approach / What changed

The service gives teens their own Uber teen accounts while allowing guardians to request rides for them. It combines live trip tracking, realtime notifications, highly rated driver matching, always-on PIN verification and RideCheck, and a shared group chat with the driver.

## Takeaways

- Guardians can follow a teen’s trip in the app and receive realtime notifications while the ride is in progress.
- On-demand rides must stay within the displayed service-area boundaries, but Reserve trips remain requestable outside those boundaries.
- Guardians book a teen ride by selecting the rider from “For me” and then choosing “Uber for teens” in the Uber app.
