Customer journeys have become non-linear while identity signals decay, and marketing value is shifting from reach frequency to a prediction economy that rewards anticipating needs. AI agents can recommend or take the next-best action for each customer within human-defined guardrails, with each action measured incrementally against what would have happened without it. Identity resolution must be continuous, connecting known and pseudonymous signals across channels, to provide reliable context for agent decisions. The context required includes customer behavior, business objectives, decision history, and control guardrails, with a single transaction carrying up to 50 metadata parameters. A practical starting point is focusing on one meaningful decision, such as reactivating lapsed customers, and expanding as trust and results build.

A year after arguing that AI sovereignty means choice, Cloudflare adds two European open models—EuroLLM and Apertus—to Workers AI, reflecting a year where access to frontier models became constrained and attacks using AI increased. EuroLLM supports 35 languages including all 24 EU official languages, many underserved by existing open models, and was trained on the MareNostrum 5 supercomputer. Apertus, Switzerland’s first fully open multilingual model, was trained on 15 trillion tokens across 1,500+ languages on the Alps supercomputer (10,000+ GH200 GPUs) and outperforms leading models on rare and regional languages. Cloudflare also launches hands-on workshops for government cyber agencies and critical infrastructure operators to build model-agnostic AI security defenses, starting in Singapore in October. The company open-sourced its own security harness that coordinates multiple AI models for vulnerability hunting, ensuring defenses remain operational even if access to one model is lost.

Skills in AI agent projects silently misfire when their trigger descriptions are passive or too general, causing the agent to skip using them. The authoring tool skill-creator, from Anthropic’s skills collection, provides an eval loop that generates positive and negative test prompts and iterates on description accuracy using a training and held-out test set to avoid overfitting. These tests are ephemeral, so the open-source framework promptfoo extends them into permanent configuration files that can be committed alongside skills. Promptfoo’s agent SDK providers test through the actual agent runtime and include a skill-used assertion to confirm proper routing, and its YAML-based configuration fits naturally into version control. The final step is wiring promptfoo evals into CI, using GitHub Actions with path filters to run on pull requests that modify skills, catching regressions before they ship and costing roughly $0.10-0.15 per eval.

Enterprise AI environments are moving from dedicated GPU servers to shared accelerator infrastructure, requiring higher GPU utilization with strong isolation. AMD Instinct MI300X GPUs support hardware-assisted SR-IOV in CPX mode, each exposing eight virtual functions with separate PCI and VRAM allocation. When integrated with Red Hat OpenStack Services on OpenShift, the control plane runs on OpenShift while RHEL compute nodes use EDPM, with Nova scheduling VFs via VFIO PCI passthrough. Validation on an 8-GPU system created 64 VFs, demonstrated 64 VMs with one VF each, and tested up to 32 VFs per VM. BabelStream benchmarks showed approximately 96-99% of bare-metal memory bandwidth, while the testing also identified limitations in GPU peer-to-peer DMA and runtime VF lifecycle.

Cloudflare Workers now provides opt-in support for post-quantum cryptographic algorithms ML-KEM and ML-DSA within the Web Crypto API, including ML-KEM-768, ML-KEM-1024, ML-DSA-44, ML-DSA-65, and ML-DSA-87. These algorithms enable key encapsulation via encapsulateBits and decapsulateBits, and signatures via sign and verify, along with helper APIs like getPublicKey and SubtleCrypto.supports for feature detection. The implementation is gated behind the webcrypto\_modern\_algorithms compatibility flag and is based on a draft WICG specification, meaning it is opt-in while the specification is still moving. Developers can now use native primitives instead of bundling separate cryptographic code, reducing application size and maintenance burden for developers. Libraries such as panva/jose for JWTs and panva/hpke for HPKE can delegate ML-KEM and ML-DSA to the runtime, enabling experimentation with post-quantum protocols and preparing for the migration.

Basin offers cost efficiency with zero egress fees and usage-based pricing, charging only when data is ingested, processed, or queried. Early adopters have used Basin for use cases including real-time e-commerce optimization, billing metrics storage, and infrastructure telemetry analysis.

### [Graph-centric agentic intelligence](https://yomu.fyi/post/graph-centric-agentic-intelligence.md)
- Company: [AWS](https://yomu.fyi/company/aws.md)
- Author: Imen Grida Ben Yahya, Nameet Dutia
- Published: Oct 1, 2026
- Type: Problem & solution

Graphs encode relationships and provide scaffolding for causal inference and compositional reasoning, which is essential for AI agents reasoning over complex networks. The post traces the evolution of graph intelligence from passive topology models to active agentic reasoning, culminating in a three-pillar approach for root cause analysis. The approach combines a continuously synchronized network digital twin graph with a cascaded pipeline of graph algorithms—decomposition, clustering, and centrality ranking—that narrow the search space. An agentic orchestration layer selects and composes these algorithms adaptively based on failure characteristics, performing complexity triage and consulting an incident knowledge base. The system achieved root cause analysis in minutes on commercial networks, demonstrated with NTT DOCOMO at MWC.

### [How LinkedIn extended ClickHouse from distributed tracing to metric discovery and analytics](https://yomu.fyi/post/how-linkedin-extended-clickhouse-from-distributed-tracing-to-metric-di.md)
- Company: [Clickhouse](https://yomu.fyi/company/clickhouse.md)
- Published: Oct 1, 2026
- Type: Problem & solution

LinkedIn’s observability team first deployed ClickHouse for distributed tracing, where even at 1% head sampling the system generates 0.8 trillion spans and 200 TB of uncompressed data per day across three data centers. They then extended ClickHouse to consolidate a legacy metric metadata system built on RRDtool semantics, which had grown into three separate services that had reached their scaling limits. The new single-shard ClickHouse index serves over 150,000 queries per minute with an average latency of 68 milliseconds across 13 billion-plus metrics with 30% daily turnover. Migrating off the legacy stack reduced memory use to roughly one-fifth and compute to about two-thirds, with enough headroom to double the metric volume. By exposing individual dimensions as columns, the index enables engineers to replace regex-heavy queries with efficient native ones, supporting the larger migration away from RRD semantics.

### [RustRover vs VS Code + rust-analyzer: What Changes in Your Rust Workflow](https://yomu.fyi/post/rustrover-vs-vs-code-rust-analyzer-what-changes-in-your-rust-workflow.md)
- Company: [Jetbrains](https://yomu.fyi/company/jetbrains.md)

### [IP Functions are Generally Available, bringing high-performance network analytics to the Lakehouse](https://yomu.fyi/post/ip-functions-are-generally-available-bringing-high-performance-network.md)
- Company: [Databricks](https://yomu.fyi/company/databricks.md)
- Author: Michael Andersen, Benjamin Mathew
- Published: Oct 1, 2026
- Type: Announcement

The announcement introduces the general availability of IP Functions, a feature that brings high-performance network analytics to the Lakehouse by enabling SQL-based processing of IP addresses. The post explains that IP data is warehousing data, as firewalls, load balancers, VPNs, CDN edges, DNS resolvers, Kubernetes clusters, and application servers emit streams of records keyed on IP addresses, generating tens of billions of events daily for large enterprises. These streams support valuable analytics such as threat detection, fraud investigation, and network governance. The post notes that network analytics used to be painful because IP addresses were deceptively hard to handle in SQL, with no regex support. The feature aims to simplify this by providing native IP functions for the Lakehouse.

### [ShopGym: Realistic, reproducible sandboxes for shopping agents (2026) - Shopify](https://yomu.fyi/post/shopgym-realistic-reproducible-sandboxes-for-shopping-agents-2026-shop.md)
- Company: [Shopify](https://yomu.fyi/company/shopify.md)
- Author: Mingyu Zhao
- Published: Oct 1, 2026
- Type: Explainer

ShopGym converts live storefronts into self-contained, resettable sandbox shops for training and evaluating shopping agents, addressing challenges from changing products and bot detection. Its ShopArena layer separates exploration from generation using anonymized specifications and coding agents with execution-verification loops that repair failures without regenerating the whole shop. ShopGuru then synthesizes benchmark tasks across seven skill categories using rule-based and LLM generators grounded in each shop’s catalog, navigation, and policies. Validation over 224 tasks across six shops, three synthetic and three real, showed synthetic shops retain key structural properties and agent performance positively correlates with live storefronts when tested with BrowserGym and an internal system. The framework aims to provide reproducible environments for agents to fail and learn before interacting with live stores, with plans to expand to more retail domains and task types.

### [Your customers don't want an AI friend. They want an answer.](https://yomu.fyi/post/your-customers-don-t-want-an-ai-friend-they-want-an-answer.md)
- Company: [Twilio](https://yomu.fyi/company/twilio.md)
- Author: Jesse Sumrak
- Published: Oct 1, 2026
- Type: Problem & solution

A Twilio survey of 660 business leaders and consumers reveals a gap: 98% of organizations train AI to act more human, yet customers rank issue resolution, speed, accuracy, and availability above personality. Only 54% of consumers want human-like AI, versus 73% of brands. Behaviors customers call empathetic—acknowledging the specific situation, offering multiple solutions, using conversational language, offering compensation—depend on personalization and context, not tone. 51% of consumers find AI robotic, and 39% of businesses cite weak emotional understanding as a top dissatisfaction driver. The report recommends prioritizing context and personalization over personality, using tools like Twilio Conversation Memory and Conversation Orchestrator to make agents useful before charming.
