Apple Mail and Gmail now generate AI summaries of emails, while agents read messages to automate tasks like logging receipts or tracking deadlines. Summarizers focus on the first 100 to 150 characters, so the main point and call to action must lead the email. Semantic HTML with h1 headings, a descriptive title, lang attributes, and role=‘presentation’ on tables creates a machine-readable outline, yet the Email Markup Consortium found 74% of emails lack an h1 and 96% lack lang. Hidden text styled to be invisible can hijack summaries, as Forcepoint demonstrated, and similar attacks have targeted Gemini in Google Workspace; such practices also trigger security flags. Testing in Gmail, Apple Mail, and Outlook, along with verifying the plain text version, confirms that both humans and agents interpret the email correctly.

RTD’s Access-on-Demand pilot gives eligible Access-a-Ride customers subsidized, curb-to-curb Uber trips that can be requested the same day instead of scheduled in advance. The program complements rather than replaces Access-a-Ride, offers up to 60 subsidized trips per month across participating providers, and operates throughout RTD’s service area during Access-a-Ride hours, except 1:30 a.m. to 3:30 a.m. Riders pay a $4.50 standard fare or $2.25 LiVE fare, while RTD subsidizes up to $20 per eligible trip; riders cover amounts beyond that limit. To use the benefit, customers need active certification, must complete RTD enrollment, and activate an Uber voucher linked to their enrolled account, which applies automatically to eligible trips.

### [Using Uber: your guide to Pace's RAP Program](https://yomu.fyi/post/using-uber-your-guide-to-pace-s-rap-program.md)
- Company: [Uber](https://yomu.fyi/company/uber.md)

Pace’s Ride Access Program (RAP) is a supplementary service for ADA paratransit riders in its six-county region, using transportation network companies such as Uber to expand transportation options through ride vouchers. RAP riders can use subsidies for up to eight Uber trips daily, pay a $3.25 co-pay, and receive up to $26.75 per trip, while covering costs above the $30 total limit; trips must start and end within the Pace ADA service area. The guide explains enrollment-related account setup, including matching the Uber account’s contact details to the RAP profile, verifying identity, and recognizing the in-app voucher through a strikethrough market price and subsidized initial charge. It also documents a no-smartphone booking option at 833-USE-UBER, support channels, optional tipping, service-animal access, lost-item recovery, and in-app safety tools.

### [Case study: TriMet unlocks same-day paratransit with an innovative partnership](https://yomu.fyi/post/case-study-trimet-unlocks-same-day-paratransit-with-an-innovative-part.md)
- Company: [Uber](https://yomu.fyi/company/uber.md)
- Published: Jun 16, 2026
- Type: Problem & solution

TriMet’s 2024 partnership with Uber, TransDev, and Trapeze added same-day capability to its LIFT paratransit service in Metro Portland. Before LIFT+, trip management spanned multiple systems, while cancellations and manual coordination increased operational burden and weakened the rider experience. In April 2024, riders began booking through LIFT’s web platform or call center, after which TriMet’s integrated Trapeze PASS TripBroker used the Uber Plug-in to select dedicated vehicles or Uber based on rider profiles, requests, trip efficiency, and fleet capacity; it could also reschedule cancellations and delays. Since launch, TriMet has delivered more than 47,300 Uber trips and reduced average cost per trip from $78 to $54, while riders gained same-day flexibility and trip details including estimated arrival times.

The Email Markup Consortium’s 2026 report analyzed 376,348 emails and found that only eight passed every accessibility check, while nearly all failures included Serious or Critical issues. The post focuses on six largely mechanical improvements: setting lang and dir, marking layout tables role=“presentation”, creating a heading hierarchy, writing descriptive link and image text, adding a specific title element, and meeting a 4.5:1 color-contrast ratio. It gives HTML examples, notes that clients may strip attributes from the html element, and distinguishes meaningful images from decorative ones that need empty alt text. It also describes updated React Email defaults for language, direction, image alt text, Markdown tables, and titles, while leaving content judgments such as headings, links, and contrast to authors.

### [Introducing HoosierShare, Indiana University’s innovative program with Uber](https://yomu.fyi/post/introducing-hoosiershare-indiana-university-s-innovative-program-with.md)

Indiana University Bloomington has partnered with Uber to launch HoosierShare, a 24/7 shared-ride option for verified students, faculty, and staff traveling around Bloomington and campus. Powered by Uber’s Closed Loop Share feature, the program matches IU riders heading in the same direction, permits up to two other individual riders, and can cost up to 20% less than standard UberX fares. Enrollment requires an Uber account, IU-credential verification, and use of the designated IU Ride service zone, where every trip must start and end; HoosierShare allows one person per booking. The program is intended to expand transportation access and support IU sustainability goals, while the first 10,000 enrollees receive $5 off their first trip and shared rides are designed to add no more than eight minutes on average.

### [Setting the standard for support: What Spain’s new customer service law signals](https://yomu.fyi/post/setting-the-standard-for-support-what-spain-s-new-customer-service-law.md)
- Company: [Intercom](https://yomu.fyi/company/intercom.md)

Spain’s proposed customer service law would impose stricter requirements on regulated providers and sufficiently large companies, covering response times, human access, complaint handling, accessibility, and auditability. It would require 95% of support calls to be answered within three minutes, free lines, 24/7 support for continuity issues in essential services, and complaints resolved within 15 days or five days for undue charges. The source also describes protections against spam calls, centralized complaint records, multilingual support obligations for some large companies, and simpler subscription cancellation. It presents AI Agents such as Fin as a way to reduce avoidable volume, answer calls, preserve human escalation, structure complaints, communicate outages, and support reporting. The stated conclusion is that early modernization may ease pressure on human teams while helping organizations adapt to rising regulatory and customer expectations.

This tutorial shows how to customize an Okta-hosted sign-in page for a fictional to-do application while retaining the Okta Identity Engine and Sign-In Widget (SIW). It starts with a custom domain and brand configuration, then uses the page code editor, SIW design tokens, custom text, Tailwind CSS via CDN, and external JavaScript behavior to create a responsive layout, branded footer, and terms-and-conditions modal. The modal uses Alpine.js transitions and a MutationObserver watching the authentication container so it appears after SIW elements render; Google Fonts also require CSP allowlist entries for googleapis.com and gstatic.com. The post notes that browser manipulation can bypass the modal, recommends accessibility testing after customization, and describes connecting the brand to an Okta React sample through an OIDC custom issuer URL.

### [Accessibility and Real-time Apps: Clearing Fog and Picking Fruit](https://yomu.fyi/post/accessibility-and-real-time-apps-clearing-fog-and-picking-fruit.md)
- Company: [Fly.io](https://yomu.fyi/company/fly-io.md)
- Published: Apr 25, 2022
- Type: Tutorial

This post describes an initial accessibility pass on LiveBeats, a Phoenix LiveView reference app with real-time social features, focused on screen reader users before real-time updates are introduced. It recommends labeling meaningful controls and images with visible text, alt, SVG desc, or aria-label, while hiding decorative imagery with aria-hidden="true" or blank alt attributes. It then explains that semantic HTML such as button, main, nav, and article is preferable to ARIA roles where available, while named regions can improve navigation and orientation. Roles also create behavioral obligations: a role="button" control must support focus and Enter or Space activation, and role="application" can force focus mode, blocking caret-browsing conveniences unless the app supplies comprehensive interaction behavior. The initial work clears foundational accessibility issues, with later work reserved for presenting live changes accessibly.

### [Accessibility for real-time web apps](https://yomu.fyi/post/accessibility-for-real-time-web-apps.md)
- Company: [Fly.io](https://yomu.fyi/company/fly-io.md)
- Published: Mar 3, 2022

Accessibility for real-time web apps argues that accessibility should be treated as an ongoing design and engineering process rather than a late checklist, using blind developer Nolan Darilek’s experience to frame the subject. It explains why reducing interaction barriers benefits everyone, why disability can be temporary or acquired with age, and why teams should plan for access needs from the beginning. Recommended practices include automated checks such as Deque’s Axe DevTools, live audits, testing with people who have specific access needs, and hiring people with disabilities without making one employee solely responsible. The post then identifies Phoenix LiveView challenges in LiveBeats: dynamically loaded routes need transition announcements, live regions need careful updates, and dropdowns and modals require keyboard-accessibility work.

### [Designing for Accessibility: Contrast Ratio](https://yomu.fyi/post/designing-for-accessibility-contrast-ratio.md)
- Company: [Heroku](https://yomu.fyi/company/heroku.md)
- Author: Ariana Escobar
- Published: Aug 21, 2019

Heroku’s accessibility initiative targeted WCAG 2.0 Level AA luminance contrast for its user interfaces, addressing reduced contrast sensitivity and color-vision deficiencies. The team audited its palette with Contrast Grid, proposed darker and revised colors, then chose a narrower proposal that preserved existing names and colors while meeting accessibility concerns within an affordable implementation effort. Because the palette affected GUIs built with Purple 3 and Malibu, pull requests generated Review Apps so teams could audit production-ready CSS and SVG assets across Dashboard components before release. Audits using axe-core 3.2.2 covered common and unusual elements, reducing color-contrast violations by an order of magnitude before rollout. The updated palette now spans the Heroku Dashboard, with planned accessibility testing through Ember tooling and further audits across other interfaces.

### [iOS Application Testing Strategies at Shopify](https://yomu.fyi/post/ios-application-testing-strategies-at-shopify.md)
- Company: [Shopify](https://yomu.fyi/company/shopify.md)
- Author: Uzziah Eyee
- Published: Jan 15, 2019
- Type: Explainer

Shopify describes an iOS testing strategy for a monorepo containing multiple app projects and evolving through hundreds of weekly commits. The approach covers Models, Views, ViewModels, View Controllers, and user workflows with tests matched to each component’s role: regular unit tests for business rules, snapshot tests for visual behavior, and XCUITest UI automation for user-facing flows. UI automation selects elements through accessibility labels or strings, which can also improve accessibility for visually impaired users, while manual testing remains necessary for some animation and rendering issues. The article recommends a test pyramid because slower tests require more human effort and maintenance, and says suites must evolve as business requirements change.

### [Building a Data Table Component in React](https://yomu.fyi/post/building-a-data-table-component-in-react.md)
- Company: [Shopify](https://yomu.fyi/company/shopify.md)
- Author: Amber Armstrong
- Published: Oct 17, 2018
- Type: Tutorial

Building a responsive data table in React requires preserving a rigid grid while accommodating narrow screens, long words, readable alignment, contextual headings, and accessible markup. The Polaris example starts with headings and rows passed as props, then maps them into a stateful table component and a stateless Cell subcomponent. To contain overflow, the table sits in a max-width: 100vw wrapper with horizontal scrolling, while an absolutely positioned, explicitly sized first column remains fixed and later cells receive matching left spacing. Because absolute positioning breaks natural row-height behavior, refs, clientHeight measurements, Math.max, componentDidMount(), and resize handling recalculate and apply the tallest height for each row. The finished component adds a caption and scope attributes for screen readers, and the described result is a responsive, accessible table for comparing and analyzing data, with the full Polaris version adding truncation, totals, sorting, and navigation.

### [Accelerating Android Talent Through Community Bootcamps](https://yomu.fyi/post/accelerating-android-talent-through-community-bootcamps.md)

Shopify created Android Bootcamp to address its need for mobile talent while giving local developers an entry point into Android development. The two-day workshop targeted people with at least one year of development experience, especially newcomers to Canada, and taught participants to build a simple quiz app. The curriculum covered XML-defined views, Android lifecycles, MVC, JSON parsing, libraries, and remote data fetching, with six Shopify mentors supporting one primary teacher. After screening 33 applications, the team accepted 14 people—seven men and seven women—and received positive feedback, although participants found the room too small. Shopify reported 100% overall happiness, one attendee later joined full-time, another was set to join in May, and a second bootcamp was being planned for June.
