### [Classic Engine Feature EOL: SSR, Desktop SSO, Device Trust](https://yomu.fyi/post/classic-engine-feature-eol-ssr-desktop-sso-device-trust.md)
- Company: [Okta](https://yomu.fyi/company/okta.md)
- Author: Vanshika Pandey
- Published: Sep 18, 2026
- Type: Announcement

Okta will end support for Self-Service Registration, Desktop Single Sign-On using Integrated Windows Authentication (IWA), and Device Trust on Classic Engine on March 5, 2027. After that deadline, the capabilities will be turned off unless organizations upgrade to Okta Identity Engine, and Okta will no longer address related bugs, security vulnerabilities, or broken flows. The migration paths are Profile Enrollment Policy for self-service registration, Agentless Desktop Single Sign-On or Okta FastPass for desktop authentication, and management attestation with Okta Verify for mobile device trust. Identity Engine adds passwordless authentication, device assurance, phishing-resistant multifactor authentication, identity verification, zero-trust capabilities, and a newer policy framework, with the upgrade included at no additional licensing cost. Organizations are advised to assess feature usage, test in non-production, and schedule production migration before the hard deadline.

### [Long Story Short: I Found My Place Between Code and Community](https://yomu.fyi/post/long-story-short-i-found-my-place-between-code-and-community.md)
- Company: [Okta](https://yomu.fyi/company/okta.md)
- Author: Aasawari Sahasrabuddhe
- Published: Jun 24, 2026
- Type: Announcement

Aasawari Sahasrabuddhe describes moving from backend software development into developer relations after finding that coding alone felt incomplete. She also discusses deeper interests in containers, Kubernetes, Docker, CI/CD, and GitOps, along with recognition as a MongoDB Champion for community contributions. The announcement introduces her move to Okta, where she wants to examine the intersection of identity, security, and AI, including how identity supports trust, access, and governance for AI systems. She frames this role as a way to stay close to community while continuing to work with code and content.

### [How to Build Low-Code API Integrations for Enterprise Apps Using Okta](https://yomu.fyi/post/how-to-build-low-code-api-integrations-for-enterprise-apps-using-okta.md)
- Company: [Okta](https://yomu.fyi/company/okta.md)
- Author: Emily Wendell
- Published: May 12, 2026
- Type: Tutorial

Okta’s API Integration Actions let independent software vendors build Provisioning, Entitlements, and Universal Logout integrations in the Okta Integration Network using Workflows, Okta’s low-code builder. The approach maps existing APIs directly to Okta action contracts, allowing developers to avoid building and maintaining a SCIM server while translating API calls into formats Okta can consume. The guide walks through creating an OIN integration, configuring tenant and authentication mappings, adding API Integration Action components, building and validating flows, and submitting them through the OIN Wizard. It also explains how to create and update an org-only test instance before review, noting that submission changes do not automatically update an existing test instance for security reasons.

### [Take User Provisioning to the Next Level with Entitlements](https://yomu.fyi/post/take-user-provisioning-to-the-next-level-with-entitlements.md)
- Company: [Okta](https://yomu.fyi/company/okta.md)
- Author: Alisa Duncan
- Published: Jan 21, 2026
- Type: Tutorial

This workshop extends a React and Express.js Todo application’s SCIM-based user provisioning to include entitlements such as roles, licensing, and permissions for enterprise B2B SaaS use. Starting from completed SCIM workshop code, it adds a /Roles endpoint, database-backed roles, SCIM schemas and resource types, and TypeScript implementations that conform to SCIM responses and user resources. The walkthrough connects the API to an Okta SCIM application, discovers schemas and characteristics, and demonstrates synchronizing existing entitlements and assigning a custom is\_tall characteristic to a user. It also discusses multi-tenant designs, where organization-specific roles can be addressed through an API key in the Authorization header, while recommending OAuth for production.

### [Unlock the Secrets of a Custom Sign-In Page with Tailwind and JavaScript](https://yomu.fyi/post/unlock-the-secrets-of-a-custom-sign-in-page-with-tailwind-and-javascri.md)
- Company: [Okta](https://yomu.fyi/company/okta.md)
- Author: Alisa Duncan
- Published: Nov 24, 2025
- Type: Tutorial

This tutorial shows how to customize an Okta-hosted sign-in page for a fictional to-do application while retaining the Okta Identity Engine and Sign-In Widget (SIW). It starts with a custom domain and brand configuration, then uses the page code editor, SIW design tokens, custom text, Tailwind CSS via CDN, and external JavaScript behavior to create a responsive layout, branded footer, and terms-and-conditions modal. The modal uses Alpine.js transitions and a MutationObserver watching the authentication container so it appears after SIW elements render; Google Fonts also require CSP allowlist entries for googleapis.com and gstatic.com. The post notes that browser manipulation can bypass the modal, recommends accessibility testing after customization, and describes connecting the brand to an Okta React sample through an OIDC custom issuer URL.

### [Stretch Your Imagination and Build a Delightful Sign-In Experience](https://yomu.fyi/post/stretch-your-imagination-and-build-a-delightful-sign-in-experience.md)
- Company: [Okta](https://yomu.fyi/company/okta.md)
- Author: Alisa Duncan
- Published: Nov 12, 2025

- Company: [Okta](https://yomu.fyi/company/okta.md)
- Author: Sohail Pathan
- Published: Jun 16, 2025
- Type: Announcement

Sohail Pathan describes his path from Android development to a Senior Developer Advocate role at Okta, tracing how curiosity about technology grew into community and developer relations work. After studying Computer Science and adopting Kotlin for Android app projects, he moved from an EdTech startup’s Android team into its first Developer Community Manager role, organizing meetups, answering forum questions, and supporting learners. At a deeptech startup, he led Developer Relations for a cloud-based Android Studio tool, using meetups, hackathons, and feedback to seek product-market fit before technical roadblocks and limited demand forced closure after four months. At ApyHub, he created Go and Node.js tutorials, sample apps, API documentation, and community programs while gaining hands-on experience with REST architecture, microservices, API gateways, containers, load balancing, DevOps, OAuth, and identity management. He says that exposure led him to Okta, where he plans to share API and identity knowledge with its community.

### [Changes Are Coming to the Okta Developer Edition Organizations](https://yomu.fyi/post/changes-are-coming-to-the-okta-developer-edition-organizations.md)
- Company: [Okta](https://yomu.fyi/company/okta.md)
- Author: E. Dunham
- Published: May 13, 2025
- Type: Announcement

Okta is replacing Developer Edition organizations with the Integrator Free Plan as the default developer organization type on May 22, 2025, as part of architectural changes tied to its Secure Identity Commitment. The new organization is intended for iterative integration development, identity-flow validation, and OIN preparation, not production use, and provides access to expanded testing offerings and support resources. Existing Developer Edition organizations begin deactivation on July 18, 2025, in batches, after which users lose access to their organizations and resources. Migration choices include recreating resources with automation, generating Terraform configurations with Terraformer, or using EnvSync to back up supported objects and recreate many of them. Published OIN integrations remain available, but linking them to the new account requires contacting Okta; draft or in-review submissions from Developer Edition must be approved by June 9 or will be automatically declined and require resubmission.

### [Astronomy Geek to Oktanaut: Landing as a Dev Advocate at Okta](https://yomu.fyi/post/astronomy-geek-to-oktanaut-landing-as-a-dev-advocate-at-okta.md)
- Company: [Okta](https://yomu.fyi/company/okta.md)
- Author: Akanksha Bhasin
- Published: Apr 21, 2025
- Type: Announcement

Akanksha Bhasin joins Okta as an “Oktanaut” in Developer Relations after more than six years building developer communities and four years focused on Developer Relations. Her path began with experiments in Arduino, programming, and AI applications, then shifted toward Voice AI after Google Assistant launched in 2018; she built applications for Google Assistant and Alexa and was later featured at Google I/O. She taught these technologies at meetups and colleges across India, founded Women in Voice, India, led Google Developer Groups, and helped organize events including DevFests that gathered more than 3,000 developers. At Okta, she wants to help independent software vendors and developers secure user identities, treating identity security and access management as foundational to enterprise applications rather than a checklist item.

### [How to Submit Your System for Cross](https://yomu.fyi/post/how-to-submit-your-system-for-cross.md)
- Company: [Okta](https://yomu.fyi/company/okta.md)
- Author: Semona Igama
- Published: Dec 30, 2024
- Type: Tutorial

Enterprise applications with SSO still need scalable identity management for customer organizations, including user provisioning, updates, and deprovisioning. This guide presents SCIM (System for Cross-domain Identity Management) as the standards-based connection to Okta for automating those lifecycle operations and controlling access. SCIM can synchronize users in real time as employees join, leave, or change roles, while reducing manual work and inconsistent deprovisioning risks. To submit the integration to the Okta Integration Network, partners need an Okta Integrator Free Plan, two Runscope test links for CRUD and SPEC tests, manual Okta SCIM integration tests, a provisioning-enabled instance, confirmation, and a publicly accessible SCIM server. The submission can expose an integration to Okta’s customer base of 18,000+ organizations and provide verified enterprise-ready status.

### [How to Build Secure Okta Node.js Integrations with DPoP](https://yomu.fyi/post/how-to-build-secure-okta-node-js-integrations-with-dpop.md)
- Company: [Okta](https://yomu.fyi/company/okta.md)
- Author: Ram Gandhi
- Published: Oct 23, 2024
- Type: Tutorial

Okta management API integrations can use a Node.js service app with OAuth 2.0 client credentials, but a bearer access token can be replayed by anyone who obtains it during its one-hour lifetime. The tutorial configures Okta for private\_key\_jwt authentication, grants the okta.users.read scope and Read-only Administrator role, and builds a Node.js service that requests and caches an access token. It then enables Demonstrating Proof of Possession (DPoP), handles an initial use\_dpop\_nonce response by retrying the token request with a nonce-bound proof, and generates a fresh proof for each API call. Each request binds the proof to the access token through the SHA-256-based ath value and uses DPoP rather than Bearer authorization. The demonstrated service successfully lists users through Okta Admin Management API endpoints.

### [How to Use Okta's PowerShell Module to Manage Your Okta Org](https://yomu.fyi/post/how-to-use-okta-s-powershell-module-to-manage-your-okta-org.md)
- Company: [Okta](https://yomu.fyi/company/okta.md)
- Author: Louie Campagna
- Published: May 7, 2024
- Type: Tutorial

The tutorial shows how to use Okta’s official PowerShell module to administer an Okta org, covering authentication, user operations, group management, and broader API automation. It requires a PowerShell terminal, the module installed from the PowerShell Gallery, Chocolatey, or GitHub, plus an Okta Developer Edition account for the setup described. Authentication uses an OIDC Native application with the Device Authorization grant, a client ID, the org base URL, and the okta.users.manage and okta.groups.manage scopes; Invoke-OktaEstablishAccessToken completes authorization. Examples search and retrieve users, create and update profiles, create groups, add users, and inspect memberships with PowerShell pipelines and formatting cmdlets. The demonstrated workflow connects successfully and manages users and groups, while the same techniques are presented as applicable to other Okta API endpoints.

### [Build and Integrate Universal Logout with Okta](https://yomu.fyi/post/build-and-integrate-universal-logout-with-okta.md)
- Company: [Okta](https://yomu.fyi/company/okta.md)
- Author: Semona Igama
- Published: Apr 30, 2024
- Type: Tutorial

The tutorial builds Universal Logout for an OIDC-enabled SaaS Todo application so enterprise administrators can end suspicious user sessions after account compromise or other detected risk. It explains how to create a /global-token-revocation endpoint, connect it to the Express app, identify a user from the revocation request, and invalidate that user's application session. Initial protection uses an API key, while the updated flow upgrades authorization to OAuth 2.0 Private Key JWT with the Okta JWT Verifier library. The tutorial then exposes the endpoint publicly, configures Okta Admin Console integration, and describes optional OIN submission with Private Key JWT and an email identifier for sub\_id. In the test, an admin clears the user's sessions and tokens; the Todo app redirects the user to login when they attempt to add a task, demonstrating Universal Logout works.

### [Introducing Okta's Official PowerShell Module](https://yomu.fyi/post/introducing-okta-s-official-powershell-module.md)
- Company: [Okta](https://yomu.fyi/company/okta.md)
- Author: E. Dunham
- Published: Apr 11, 2024
- Type: Tutorial

Okta’s official PowerShell Module provides PowerShell-based access to Okta group, group-rule, and user operations. The post shows installation from PSGallery, configuration with an organization base URL, client ID, and OAuth 2.0 scopes, followed by browser-based token establishment. Examples create a “Sales Team” group, define a rule that assigns users with the title “Sales Representative,” activate it, and create a matching user during onboarding. A second script imports employee records from a CSV, copies each property into a user profile, uses the email as the login, and calls New-OktaUser for each row. The source presents these workflows as examples for automating employee data synchronization when a custom tool lacks OIDC or SCIM compatibility.

### [How to Prepare Your Self](https://yomu.fyi/post/how-to-prepare-your-self.md)

Okta warns that applications using its embedded Sign-In Widget may encounter Chrome login problems after January 1, 2025, when Google’s temporary exemption allowing third-party cookies ends. The guidance recommends testing with Chrome feature flags and watching for console errors, unexpected reauthentication, or logout during session extension. It presents four migration paths: issue first-party cookies through a custom domain, use the authorization code flow with refresh tokens, configure AuthJS with the offline\_access scope, or replace deprecated sessions/me calls with supported OAuth and revocation mechanisms. A custom domain can require CSP updates for externally hosted sign-in resources, while offline\_access must be enabled both on the authorization server and in application code. An Okta-provided script offers a temporary exemption through the end of 2024, but it is not a lasting fix.

### [How I Built an Okta Documentation Chatbot in Python](https://yomu.fyi/post/how-i-built-an-okta-documentation-chatbot-in-python.md)
- Company: [Okta](https://yomu.fyi/company/okta.md)
- Author: Tanish Kumar
- Published: Dec 20, 2023
- Type: Tutorial

Okta developer documentation contains information developers need for integrations, but the author observed that it was underused. They built Oktanaut, a Python chatbot in Jupyter Notebook, comparing a LlamaIndex-based prototype trained on Okta documentation with a GPT-3.5-powered version using the OpenAI API. The first favored precision for focused questions, while the second handled a broader range; the final demo used OpenAI API for its larger models and user-friendly experience. For both versions, the author curated questions, answers, and support engineer information, stored training data in Google Drive for Colab, and retained historical interactions so replies could use session context. Panel provided the frontend, and the author chose Jupyter Notebook for simple setup despite noting bugs and glitches.

Step-up authentication lets an application permit access to non-critical resources with basic authentication while requiring additional authentication for sensitive resources. The post describes how Okta Workforce Identity Cloud supports this pattern across modern OIDC applications and legacy integrations. For OIDC, applications use the /authorize endpoint’s acr\_values and max\_age parameters to request a mapped higher assurance level for a limited period, or prompt=login to force re-authentication each time. For non-OIDC applications, privileged Factor API operations can issue and verify challenges through a protected middleware layer using an Okta API token, while Okta Access Gateway can enforce step-up through advanced policies. Transactional MFA is presented as an alternative using OIDC CIBA, but the source defers its detailed treatment.

### [Enterprise Maturity Workshop: Terraform](https://yomu.fyi/post/enterprise-maturity-workshop-terraform.md)
- Company: [Okta](https://yomu.fyi/company/okta.md)
- Author: E. Dunham
- Published: Jul 28, 2023
- Type: Tutorial

This workshop teaches how to use Okta’s Terraform provider to manage users and groups in an Okta Organization while practicing beginner and intermediate Terraform skills. It explains desired-state configuration, where terraform plan predicts changes and terraform apply makes them, and describes how providers, resources, variables, data sources, and the terraform.tfstate file fit into a project. The exercises cover provider setup with a client ID and private key, secret handling, creating and assigning users and groups, importing resources, refactoring files, formatting code, and controlling API usage. It also uses errors and configuration drift to show how Terraform and Okta can disagree, then compares importing manual changes with applying Terraform’s declared state. The workshop concludes with cleanup through terraform destroy and points to further provider and Terraform documentation.
