AnthropicAnnouncement
Anthropic partners with the UK Government on GOV.UK
Summary
Anthropic has been selected by the UK's Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT) to help build and pilot a dedicated AI-powered assistant for GOV.UK. The assistant will initially support people entering or re-entering the workforce by helping them find work, access training, understand available support and resources, and route them to relevant services. Powered by Claude, the agentic system is designed to provide individually tailored guidance, maintain context across interactions, and let users control what data is remembered or opt out; personal information will be handled under UK data protection law. Using DSIT’s “Scan, Pilot, Scale” framework, the partners will test and iterate the assistant before wider rollout, building government expertise to maintain it independently.
Context
The initial use case is employment support for people entering or re-entering the workforce. The partnership builds on a February 2025 Memorandum of Understanding between Anthropic and the UK government to explore how advanced AI could transform public services.
Approach / What changed
Anthropic and DSIT will build and pilot an agentic GOV.UK assistant powered by Claude, with tailored guidance, persistent interaction context, user data controls, and phased testing through DSIT’s “Scan, Pilot, Scale” framework. Anthropic engineers will work alongside civil servants and Government Digital Service developers to build internal expertise for independent maintenance.
Takeaways
The assistant will initially help users find work, access training, understand available support, and reach services based on their individual circumstances.
Users will control what information is remembered and can opt out at any time, while personal information is handled in line with UK data protection law.
Anthropic engineers will collaborate with civil servants and Government Digital Service developers so the UK government can maintain the system independently.
