Making password login safer on Notion
Notion is requiring a second step of verification for password login to protect against credential reuse from other site breaches, and this change will roll out in stages over the next few months. When users set or change a password, they will be guided to set up two-step verification via an authenticator app or phone number and should save the backup codes provided. Users who already have two-step verification on their password need no action, and those without a password can continue using passkeys, email codes, or SSO. For password-only users without two-step verification, Notion will provide notice and time to set up a second step before turning off password-only login; if they choose not to, another method like an email code can still grant access. Additionally, where Notion can verify that another working method exists, it plans to turn off password login for those unused passwords.
How we built a personal data scientist for every Notion employee
Notion built Data Scout, an internal data agent connecting Snowflake and Notion, letting employees query governed data in plain language and cutting request turnaround from days to minutes. Within two months, weekly data team requests fell by about 80 percent, and roughly half of all employees now use it. The agent enforces Snowflake permissions per user and uses Notion business context, enabling teams such as Sales, Engineering, and Customer Experience to ask questions about account adoption, onboarding drop-off, or support volume using shared definitions. Using MCP, teams built Data Scout Reporter for scheduled reports and domain-specific agents that reuse the same context. Notion learned correct SQL could still answer the wrong question due to four failure modes, so they built governed access, curated context, instructions, query tracing, and a review process where change evidence is not approval.
How Notion built a Custom Agent workflow to keep Academy content current
Notion built a Custom Agent workflow in Notion to keep Academy content current as product changes ship. The system uses two databases: an Academy library mapping the curriculum and a maintenance-tasks database tracking work from each product change. Two Custom Agents handle the work: the Academy Drift Agent compares launch docs against the library and flags affected lessons, while the Academy Drafting Agent drafts approved updates using editorial guidance. MCP connects the workflow to Parta, the e-learning platform, so approved content moves into final QA without manual hand-off. The loop includes human review checkpoints before scope approval and before content moves into Parta, reducing content drift and giving the team hours back each week.
Meet (again) Max Schoening, Notion's new CTO
Notion appointed Max Schoening as CTO, reflecting its ethos of merging technology with liberal arts and integrating engineering and design as one job. Schoening, who joined last year, led product and design and shipped significant launches including Custom Agents for everyday knowledge workers and the Developer Platform allowing extensions. His background includes early design at Heroku, Cloud Run at Google, and six and a half years at GitHub working on Issues, Pull Requests, Actions, and cloud development environments used by millions. He advocates open customer-first platforms, and Notion’s open, agent-neutral context aims to benefit customers from small coffee businesses to large global enterprises balancing innovation, token costs, and governance at scale. As a two-time founder, Schoening embodies the multidisciplinary approach Notion values, and the company hires people whose work cuts across traditional discipline boundaries.
A skills library for every agent
The post introduces Notion’s skills library and Skills API, aimed at helping teams share organizational knowledge across AI agents and workflows. The library is designed for nontechnical and technical users, with collaborative editing, database organization, supporting files, permissions, suggested edits, version history, usage analytics, and controls over skill distribution. The API provides endpoints for loading skills in spec-compliant file formats, with examples including synchronization to GitHub, installation through Vercel’s Skills CLI, and uploads or edits through MCP tools. Notion says early customers and partners are already using the API across agents and tools, while an open-source starter kit supports Notion-to-GitHub synchronization. Vercel’s Skills CLI can install individual Notion skill pages or workspace plugins, using standards-compliant files without handling Notion-specific formats.
Building Shared Memory for AI Agents in Notion
Lore is an open-source, MIT-licensed tool from Notion for giving AI agents shared, persistent memory backed by Notion, addressing experiential knowledge, follow-up tasks, decision records, and procedures that can disappear between sessions. A Lore vault uses five related Notion databases—Projects, Topics, Memories, Entities, and Facts—with MCP tools for agents, Notion or a CLI for humans, and hooks intended to retrieve context and save information in the background. The design emphasizes memory maintenance: facts expire by default, relationships such as supersedes and conflicts_with clarify updates, and the CLI can identify orphaned or duplicated information. In a 500-query SkillRet retrieval evaluation, Lore achieved 84% success, while a paired model evaluation found seeded memory recovered about 46% of failures on tasks never solved without memory. The results indicate that relevant, well-maintained memory can improve agent performance, while stale or irrelevant content can harm it.
Tech – Tools & craft – Notion
Notion’s engineering collection covers tools, product design, infrastructure, security, and data systems across a set of technical posts. It opens with an inside look at the hosted Notion MCP server, created in response to requests for AI agents to work directly with Notion workspaces; the path described runs from an open-source experiment to a hosted solution with custom tools for AI workflows. Other entries describe Lore’s conversion of conversations, decisions, tasks, and durable facts into Notion pages, a Spark-native lexical-search reindexer, and multi-region systems for search, analytics, AI, and event logging. The collection also reports CI guardrails for schema changes, security testing for Custom Agents, vector-search scaling by 10x with costs reduced by 90%, Spot Balancer for Spark on Kubernetes, and the architecture and data model behind Offline Mode.
Security update (July ‘26)
Notion investigated public claims that a large dataset of its data was offered for sale on X and Breached Forums. The investigation began after the claim surfaced on June 23, 2026, and included review of publicly shared materials, sample data, and support from a third-party partner. The sample did not match data in Notion systems and contained internal duplicates and inconsistent fields; the claimed asking price and the forum user’s history also raised concerns. A deeper investigation found further inconsistencies indicating that the alleged dataset could not have come from Notion’s systems, and forum administrators later flagged the user as fraudulent. Based on the reviewed information, Notion found no evidence of a breach, customer-data access, or compromise, concluding that the alleged materials were fabricated.
Inspiration – Tools & craft – Notion
Notion’s Inspiration page gathers perspectives on the future of work from people and teams creating companies, communities, and creative practices. Its TechFirst Block pairs Ivan Zhao’s claim that AI has arrived as “infinite minds” with stories about organizations using Notion to change how work gets done. Featured examples include Brainlabs’ company-wide AI operating layer, Kim Shui’s Notion-organized New York Fashion Week preparations, and Her Tech Circle’s reconstruction of a community around a shared workspace. Additional profiles cover Thred’s effort to make offices less lonely, Sarah Jutras’s work teaching self-employment through Freelance for Life, and how leading AI companies implement AI tools effectively; the page also identifies contributors such as founders, marketers, designers, and community leaders.

This Notion HQ page collects product announcements, company updates, and stories about extending Notion’s workspace. It introduces a Developer Platform, Custom Agents that handle entire workflows autonomously, Notion 3.0 with Agents, Notion Calendar, and Notion AI for Work, described as an all-in-one AI toolkit built into the workspace. The updates also cover connectivity and data consolidation, including the acquisition of Automate.io, which built integrations for more than 200 software tools, and the welcome of Sequin, whose tools brought data from across software stacks together. Additional announcements report ZeroEntropy joining Notion, a new board of directors, a security update dated July ’26, and a private tender offer involving GIC, Sequoia Capital, and Index Ventures. The page also includes Custom Agents beta learnings, conference highlights, and a profile of a Notion consultancy.
Introducing Notion’s Developer Platform
Notion introduces a Developer Platform with Workers, data synchronization, custom agent tools, external agents and a CLI for extending its workspace beyond built-in capabilities. As teams connect agents to more workflows, the platform addresses gaps involving external data, custom logic and agents that cannot otherwise participate in Notion. Workers run custom code in a hosted secure sandbox, enabling database sync, agent tools and webhook triggers without user-managed servers; the CLI supports authentication, Notion actions and Worker deployment from a terminal or IDE. External Agents can work natively alongside teams and Custom Agents, while the External Agent API supports bringing internally built agents into the workspace. The CLI is available on all plans, Workers are in public beta for Business and Enterprise plans, and External Agents are offered through a private-beta waitlist.
What we learned during the Custom Agents beta
Notion’s Custom Agents launched in beta in February, and more than one million agents were created in two months before the feature moved out of beta. The post reports that teams scaled fastest when they treated agents as internal products, iterated with workflow experts, and shared operational knowledge rather than relying on engineers alone. Teams also redesigned end-to-end processes, such as Braintrust’s agent that scans competitor updates and Gong transcripts, updates a Notion sales one-pager, and flags relevant launches. Usage costs fell by up to 50%, partly through lighter models including Haiku 4.5 and GPT-5.4 Mini, which use up to 10× fewer credits, while new limits, dashboards, alerts, and pause controls support administration. From May 4, usage-based pricing applies through Notion credits at $10 per 1,000 credits for Business and Enterprise plans.
The cure for "execution tax" | Notion
Brainlabs CEO Dan Gilbert describes “execution tax” as the gap between a decision and its outcome, where meeting action items are recorded, chased, or lost. He argues that AI has improved engineering productivity while leaving strategists, account managers, and operators with fragmented context and a wide gap between thinking and doing. Brainlabs chose Notion as a company-wide context layer and built “Get Stuff Done,” a factory of Notion Custom Agents that captures action items, assigns owners, and executes suitable work. Its automation uses Notion Custom Agents for native tasks, Notion Workers for external integrations, company-specific Skills and selected LLMs for complex tasks, and human-in-the-loop workflows when judgment remains necessary; Gilbert says some decisions now become completed work in minutes rather than weeks.
Updating the design of Notion pages
Notion revisited its page design after years of adding blocks with inconsistent spacing and related details. Rather than relying on baseline alignment, which is difficult across browsers and user-controlled block heights, the redesign uses standardized spacing to create rhythm while preserving flexibility. The team also changed paragraph spacing so readers can scan documents and see breaks more clearly, then addressed the resulting problem of lists feeling too loose or too tight. Its solution treats blocks above and below a block as adjacent and reduces padding when neighboring items belong to a list, including checklists, bulleted, toggle, numbered, and page lists. Notion says the system will roll out across all pages, including lists, headings, and mixed-content documents, over the coming weeks.
How Chronicle hit #1 on Product Hunt using Notion
Chronicle’s Product Hunt launch aimed for a few hundred upvotes but reached number one and generated a waitlist of more than 100,000 signups. The remote team used Notion as a launch “mission control,” expanding an initial planning page into a database with status and due-date properties, assigned owners, collaborator tags, asset links, social copy, and calendar views. The shared hub coordinated feature timelines, asset publication, emails, LinkedIn posts, announcements, pre-launch instructions, and real-time launch-day updates without losing a single source of truth. Templates turned tasks into reusable pages containing creative files, drafts, and strategy notes, while the broader workspace also stored customer interview transcripts and marketing work. The team attributes the result to early preparation, careful copy and assets, coordinated support from its ecosystem, and treating the launch as a company-wide event; it says the process enabled speed, alignment across time zones, and documented repeatability.
How Notion uses Custom Agents
Notion describes how Custom Agents are being used internally to automate repetitive questions, triage incoming work, and support communications, security, recruiting, and office operations. Agents are configured by describing a workflow and adding a trigger or schedule; they operate across Notion, Slack, Mail, Calendar, and other tools while using existing knowledge for context. Examples include a CX agent that searches the CX Knowledge Base and enablement docs, a Feedback Router that classifies Slack feedback and creates tasks, and Wilbur, which triages web issues and tags the right person. The company says these workflows make knowledge available beyond individual experts, reduce manual routing and response delays, and shift attention toward complex problems and creative work.
Introducing Custom Agents
Notion has made Custom Agents available to Business and Enterprise plans as autonomous AI teammates for recurring work across Notion, Slack, Mail, Calendar, Figma, Linear, and custom MCP servers. Users describe a job and set triggers, while agents can answer questions, route tasks, compile updates, and run workflows across connected tools; setup includes an agent-written instruction set and tool configuration. The announcement describes enterprise controls including permissions, version control, usage analytics, logged runs, reversible changes, alerts, auto-pause, and administrative connection controls, while noting prompt-injection risks and planned guardrails. Custom Agents are free through 3 May 2026, then consume Notion credits based on work, with the seat price and other listed AI features unchanged; early testers have built over 21,000 agents.
Welcome to Notion, Sequin team!
Notion welcomes the Sequin team—Eric Goldman, Anthony Accomazzo, and Carter Pedersen—following discussions about the companies’ shared view of fragmented knowledge work. Sequin built a data-syncing product that brought information from systems including Salesforce, ServiceNow, and Stripe into Postgres, giving developers flexible building blocks instead of requiring them to recreate integrations. The founders say they were drawn to Notion’s enterprise search, work on AI and agents, ambitious direction, and strong user community, while Notion describes Sequin’s experience as aligned with its plans. The announcement frames the broader problem as information scattered across documents, conversations, and tools, and points to AI and agents as a way to help teams find information, automate repetitive work, and prepare for AI-native work.
Make with Notion Showcase Europe 2025: Highlights & Takeaways
Make with Notion Showcase Europe 2025 brought more than 1,300 attendees across four cities during the second year of the in-person conference series. The event centered on three themes: agentic AI taking action, organized knowledge enabling effective AI, and a community building AI-powered work. Notion presented Notion 3.0, whose Agent can handle multi-step workflows, and previewed Custom Agents that can be shared across teams, scoped to databases or teamspaces, and triggered by schedules or events. With MCP integration, Notion content and connected app context can be accessed from other tools; Custom Agents are in early access and planned for broader availability in early 2026. Research cited losses of up to €16,000 per employee annually in the UK, France, and Germany from searching for scattered information, while customer sessions covered knowledge management, AI workflows, and Notion implementations.
From workspace to runway: How Kim Shui used Notion for New York Fashion Week
Kim Shui’s Spring 2025 New York Fashion Week show took place on the 102nd floor of One World Trade Center, requiring months of planning for a 10-minute presentation. Organization was central because the event involved guest logistics, multiple teams, and coordination in an unusual venue. Shui used Notion as a single hub for schedules, mood boards, run-of-show materials, to-dos, budgets, and real-time team updates. She also collected sketches, references, textures, notes, and fabric swatches there, using digital documentation to connect creative ideas, communicate direction, and build a searchable, cross-referenced archive. She says mapping timelines and deliverables beside creative boards helps account for production constraints while preserving room for creative exploration.
