Heroku CLI v10: Support for Next Generation Heroku Platform
Heroku CLI v10.0.0 updates the command-line tool for the next-generation Fir platform while introducing breaking changes and a Node.js 20 runtime. Fir users must replace several legacy command forms, including logs and ps:stop/ps:restart arguments, and use heroku run:inside because heroku run, ps:exec, ps:copy, ps:forward, and ps:socks do not work with Fir apps. New Fir support includes heroku telemetry commands for OpenTelemetry, a generation selector for spaces:create, generation details in space commands, Fir-aware pipeline and buildpack output, and real-time log streaming with --tail. The release also upgrades oclif to v4.14.36, updates GitHub workflows to Node 20, fixes log color rendering, and is available through heroku update.

The accompanying eBay Playbook gives internal teams and agency partners more than 280 pages of guidance, over 2,700 images and videos, and interactive tools for color selection, type testing, iconography, and accessibility. Evo’s new brand strategy is expressed through the creative platform “Things.People.Love.”
Supermaven joins Cursor
Cursor announces that Supermaven, a fast, context-aware coding copilot, is joining the company, bringing creator Jacob Jackson and the Supermaven team into the effort. The post says the combination is intended to accelerate development of a more useful product built around purpose-built models, a tailored editing experience, and other product ideas. It anticipates product improvements, including a future version of the Tab model designed to be fast, context-aware, and highly intelligent during sequences of long changes. The Supermaven plugin will remain maintained, although Cursor will be the team’s core focus. The shift follows Supermaven’s earlier move toward an editor because extension APIs were blocking further capabilities the team wanted to build.
U.S. elections readiness
Anthropic outlines its preparations for the 2024 U.S. election cycle, the first in which generative AI tools are widely available. Since July 2023, it has updated its Usage Policy, strengthened misuse detection, and redirected users toward authoritative voting information. The policy prohibits campaigning, lobbying, election misinformation, targeting voting machines, and interference with vote counting or certification, while Claude's text-only output prevents it from generating image, audio, or video deepfakes. Controls include prompt modifications, API audits, possible account suspensions, cloud-provider coordination, red-teaming, Policy Vulnerability Testing, and automated evaluations of political parity, harmful-query refusals, misinformation prevention, and voter-profiling risks; a TurboVote pop-up handles voting-information requests because models lack real-time election data, while the system prompt states Claude's knowledge cutoff.

Recent additions include generative AI-powered descriptions, image background enhancements, social media promotion methods, mobile-friendly product research, and combined international shipping. The simplified listing flow is rolling out across all categories in the United States and United Kingdom, while an AI-powered bulk listing tool in Seller Hub lets US sellers create multiple listings quickly; it currently supports Sports Trading Card listings and may expand to more categories and markets. The redesigned Seller Hub adds an improved interface, more efficient business management, and better data visualization, and eBay is developing a dedicated Sell Mode for its mobile app.
Magical Bulk Listing Tool is eBay’s Latest AI-Powered Time Saver for Sellers
eBay has unveiled its magical bulk listing tool, an AI-powered feature that helps sellers create product listings from batches of uploaded images. The tool generates draft listings with suggested categories, titles, and item specifics in seconds, allowing sellers to review details for accuracy before publishing. It can process hundreds of photos per batch and create numerous drafts simultaneously; it is currently available to U.S. Seller Hub users listing in Sports Trading Card, with expansion to more categories and countries planned in the coming months. Early data showed that the tool significantly reduced listing time among users creating trading-card listings, and the rollout follows other recent AI features for sellers and buyers across eBay's marketplace.
Stripe Developer Digest (August 2024): Workbench is now available to everyone
Stripe’s August 2024 developer update announces that Workbench is available to everyone across every Dashboard surface, addressing developers’ request for in-context guidance and debugging tools during API integration work. Workbench is a developer home in the Dashboard that provides an at-a-glance view of integration behavior, lets users inspect API and event history, prototype integrations, and receive critical account alerts. As developers build, it highlights errors, helps resolve them, and recommends ways to improve integration efficiency; it can be opened with a single keystroke. The update also places Sandboxes and Event Destinations in public beta, expands Tap to Pay on iPhone with Stripe to seven countries, and notes community resources for Stripe Tax, the Stripe CLI, Payment Links, and related integrations.
Chimera Sandbox: A scalable experimentation and development platform for Notebook services
Grab's Chimera team built Chimera Sandbox to address resource accessibility challenges and enable rapid machine learning experimentation across technical and non-technical teams. The platform runs on multi-cluster Kubernetes infrastructure capable of scaling to thousands of nodes per cluster during peak loads. Users can provision customizable Docker environments with varying CPU and GPU configurations, collaborate in real time, and query data using Spark-on-Kubernetes integrations and helper magic cells. The workspace integrates with Grab's AI Gateway for LLM access alongside tools like MLflow, Optuna, RStudio, and LabelStudio on shared storage, backed by user-level cost attribution.
Series A and Magic
Cursor announces milestones in its effort to change software development with AI, describing a shift from slow, cumbersome building and modification toward greater lightness and control. The company says its tool replaces searches for primitives with instant answers, turns mechanical refactors into single “tabs,” expands terse directives into working source, and applies thousand-line changes in seconds. It reports more than 40,000 customers and an initial team that has built SOTA next-edit-prediction models, multi-billion-file retrieval systems, and fast code rewrites using speculative inference. The announcement also says Cursor raised $60m in Series A funding from Andreessen Horowitz, Thrive Capital, OpenAI, Jeff Dean, Noam Brown, founders of Stripe, GitHub, Ramp, Perplexity, and OpenAI, and others, while inviting people excited about coding’s future to consider joining the company.
Accident Forgiveness
Public cloud billing can turn accidental deployments, configuration errors, runaway VM allocation, or leaked CI/CD environments into unexpectedly enormous charges, making teams hesitant to experiment. Fly.io announces an initial “Accident Forgiveness” policy: customers with any support contract can request refunds for unexpected charges, almost without questions, while the company reserves the right to cut off abuse. The longer-term goal is an automated billing system with line-item vetoes, but fraud—especially cryptocurrency mining—requires an incremental rollout; the first version uses manual follow-up reminders to investigate incidents. A rebuilt billing system is intended to support future accident protection, including detecting month-over-month spikes, flagging unusual deployments before billing, and identifying opportunities for reserved pricing and backdated reservations.
We're Cutting L40S Prices In Half
Fly.io lowered the hourly price of NVIDIA L40S GPUs to $1.25, making them available at the same price as A10s after customer data showed that A10s—not the more powerful cards—were its most popular GPU. The post argues that most users adding GPUs to fast networks are running inference rather than training, making networking, memory, object storage, and request latency more important than access to an H100. The L40S is described as an AI-optimized L40 with AI compute performance comparable to an A100, while the L40 retains graphics hardware and is designed for rack use with more memory and lower energy consumption than gaming GPUs. The intended combination places model parameters, datasets, and compute near one another on Fly.io’s Anycast network and Tigris object storage. Examples include Llama 3.1 70B, Flux, Whisper, SegAlign, and DOOM Eternal.
eBay Introduces Intuitive Search Redesign to Elevate Shopper Experience
eBay redesigned its search experience after 18 months of user research and testing, targeting a more seamless, intuitive, and visually rich shopping journey. The update uses larger high-resolution listing images, a modernized information layout, redesigned navigation menus, and streamlined filters, with particular attention to visual categories such as Clothing, Shoes & Accessories, Jewelry & Watches, and Toys & Hobbies. A new Shopping View replaces the previous gallery view with a full-width display without sidebar ads, while delivery options are consolidated and the price filter adds an interactive graph showing price distribution. eBay says it will continue using artificial intelligence and machine learning to refine relevance, listing benefits, and seller details, with the stated aim of improving efficiency and trust for buyers and sellers.
Shipping support for module script integrity in Chrome & Safari
Shopify’s checkout is a managed service requiring control over scripts to support high-performance, PCIv4 DSS-compliant checkout and prevent tampering. SRI could validate top-level resources but did not cover imported JavaScript modules, forcing a shim for dynamic imports that added maintenance and runtime overhead. The work revived Guy Bedford’s proposal to put integrity hashes in import maps, enabling unchanged dynamic imports while also covering static imports, top-level module scripts, and modulepreload. Support shipped in Chromium 127 for Chrome and Edge, and landed in Safari 18’s beta release, with just over two weeks of full-time work and about seven chronological weeks overall.
Heroku CLI v9: Infrastructure Upgrades and oclif Transition
Heroku CLI 9.0.0 is an architectural upgrade centered on moving all core commands from a partly legacy structure to oclif. Core commands are consolidated into one package, while improved unit and integration coverage, telemetry, and a simpler automated release process support contribution, maintenance, and pre-release testing. The oclif migration provides a modular command architecture with plugin support and is intended to make command behavior more consistent, maintenance easier, and provide better scalability. Users should expect breaking changes including altered whitespace, newlines, table formatting, colors, argument ordering, flag removals, and a required separator for additional flags; deprecated commands including outbound-rules, pg:repoint, orgs:default, certs:chain, certs:key were removed. Changes apply to core commands, not separately installed plugins, and the release can be installed with heroku update.

The dashboard, available through a new Seller Hub Advertising tab, combines campaign reporting with personalized recommendations, daily optimization tips, suggested campaigns based on historical data and best practices, and trend-based campaigns built using ebay.ai. Sellers can choose among Promoted Listings, Promoted Stores, and Promoted Offsite, with Promoted Listings offering priority or general strategies that differ in placement access, controls, and charging models. The announcement reports average gains of 50% in items sold for priority campaigns, 30% more sales for general-strategy listings, and 25% more sales from external channels with Promoted Offsite, while positioning real-time data and actionable insights as tools for adjusting advertising decisions.
eBay’s Christine Su Named to Fast Company’s 2024 Queer 50 List
eBay Head of Product Christine Su has been named to Fast Company’s 2024 Queer 50 list for the second consecutive year. The list recognizes LGBTQ leaders across industries, while Su’s role covers product work for AI Recommendations, Homepage, and My eBay. She describes using AI to personalize the eBay experience for buyers and sellers, aiming to connect people with products and communities aligned with their passions. Since her first inclusion in 2023, eBay has added AI-powered features including Shop the look, an immersive carousel that curates complementary fashion looks from a buyer’s past shopping history for fashion discovery within the marketplace. Su says the intended experience should feel personal, support discovery, and connect users with people who share their passions.
Background Enhancement Tool Turns Any Photo Into a Studio-Quality Product Image
eBay’s background enhancement tool addresses the effort and expense of producing polished product photographs for listings. Sellers can remove an existing photo’s background with eBay’s background removal tool, choose from AI-generated scenes, and apply a new backdrop during listing in the iOS and Android mobile apps. The feature is available to iOS users in the U.S., U.K., and Germany, with Android rollout planned over the coming months, and remains in early rollout for feedback and iteration. It uses open source deep learning inpainting models, including Stable Diffusion, alongside eBay’s anonymous data and infrastructure; future visual generation models will be fine-tuned using seller feedback. Responsible AI collaboration, accuracy guidance, and transparency reminders are intended to reduce misrepresentation of products and their condition.
eBay’s Mobile App Offers a Goldmine of Insights for Sellers
eBay’s Product Research, formerly called Terapeak, brings three years of sold-items data into its mobile app so sellers can research products and create listings from anywhere. The service reports actual sold prices, including accepted Best Offer prices, along with average and range, free-shipping share, average shipping cost, and the number of sellers who sold a product. Sellers can search, sort, filter, inspect a price-trend graph, and use “Sell one like this” to start a listing pre-populated from a sold listing. Product Research is available in the latest eBay app for iOS and Android, while desktop sellers can use it through Seller Hub; planned additions include sell-through rate, more trend graphs, and active-listing views.
