ClickHouse Release 26.4
ClickHouse Release 26.4 introduces 39 new features, 45 performance optimizations, and 238 bug fixes, focusing on broader SQL compatibility and indexing improvements. The update expands standard SQL support by allowing VALUES clauses as table expressions with column aliases, PostgreSQL-style EXTRACT units, NATURAL JOIN, and SET TIME ZONE commands. For text search, LIKE and ILIKE pattern queries using splitByNonAlpha tokenizers scan inverted index dictionaries instead of executing full-table scans when the dedicated evaluation setting is active. The release also provides the JSONAllValues function to extract all leaf values from a JSON column into a string array, enabling text skip indexes that significantly reduce scanned data and improve query latency.
Monitor Unreal Engine Game Performance with Application Metrics
Unreal Engine games frequently experience performance issues such as frame-rate drops, hitches, and network degradation that do not register as application crashes. To address the lack of live production telemetry, the Sentry Unreal SDK introduces automatic performance metrics. The integration periodically samples frame times, network health, active UObject counts, physical memory usage, and garbage collection pause durations across desktop, console, and Android platforms. Telemetry entries attach contextual hardware and environment attributes alongside trace IDs to connect aggregate latency spikes directly to underlying traces and spans. Enabled by default in Unreal SDK version 1.11.0, this telemetry provides developers with fleet-wide visibility into hardware-specific bottlenecks across game releases.
Announcing Fin for Ecommerce: Fin’s next role as a Customer Agent
Fin for Ecommerce is a new Customer Agent role for Shopify merchants, combining shopping assistance with ecommerce support before and after purchase. It helps shoppers discover products through conversational questions, live browsing context, catalog retrieval, comparisons, complementary recommendations, cart updates, and checkout guidance, while handling returns, refunds, exchanges, order changes, tracking, and shipping questions in the same conversation. The system uses Fin Apex 1.0 with an ecommerce retrieval engine and connects to Shopify to sync products, variants, content, order data, inventory, and APIs. Merchants can add Messenger and set Fin live in minutes without manual training; Shopify API integrations also let Fin use Procedures for complex requests, with drafts based on account data and company policies for review. The announcement positions Fin as a single Agent spanning discovery, purchase, and post-purchase support, with named ecommerce brands already using it.
Introducing Postgres Query Insights in ClickHouse Cloud
ClickHouse Cloud introduced Query Insights in preview for Managed Postgres to help teams diagnose slow database queries. Powered by the open-source extension pg_stat_ch, the tool streams per-statement telemetry directly into ClickHouse to enable fast aggregations across billions of execution rows. Postgres normalizes query literals into placeholders during the parse-analyze phase before telemetry leaves the database, preventing sensitive data exposure. Telemetry emission maintains around three percent producer overhead by utilizing a non-blocking try-lock on a shared-memory ring buffer. Users can examine high-level database health metrics, rank query patterns by runtime or latency percentiles, and inspect execution flyouts detailing disk spills, cache hits, and parallel worker behavior.
AI Is Changing What Customers Need From a Database. MongoDB 8.3 Is Built for It
MongoDB announced the general availability of MongoDB 8.3, designed to support high-throughput AI workloads without requiring application code changes. Compared to version 8.0, the release provides a 35 percent boost in write throughput, a 45 percent increase in read speeds, and 15 percent faster ACID transactions. Additionally, cross-region connectivity for AWS PrivateLink is now generally available, enabling private traffic routing between Atlas clusters across distinct AWS regions without public internet exposure. MongoDB Atlas supports deployments across 130 regions spanning AWS, Google Cloud, and Microsoft Azure, including multi-cloud cluster topologies. These infrastructure updates target enterprise demands for sub-100ms retrieval, sub-second context updates, zero downtime, and strict data residency compliance.
Why talent transformation is the missing focus of enterprise AI
Enterprise AI adoption is presented as a talent problem as much as a technology or strategy problem: insufficient worker skills are identified as the biggest barrier to integrating AI into work, while hiring alone cannot fill demand. The proposed response is continuous upskilling for both technical practitioners and line-of-business users, replacing one-time enablement with learning tied to current work and changing platform capabilities. Databricks Academy Pro is an annual, per-seat subscription combining self-paced courses, weekly live reviews, unlimited public instructor-led classes, hands-on labs in hosted Databricks environments, and one certification exam voucher per user each year. Starter, Growth, and Enterprise tiers add private online community access, a custom Academy portal, and a designated Talent Transformation program manager as seats increase. The offering is available today, alongside private instructor-led training and standalone certification vouchers.
Improved debugging for Expo apps with the React Native SDK
Expo applications generate approximately 75% of the total event volume received from React Native applications in Sentry. In response, Sentry updated its React Native SDK starting in version 8.10 to improve Expo debugging and performance monitoring workflows. The update automatically enriches events with Expo constants and over-the-air update context, including channels, runtime versions, and emergency launch warnings when an OTA update fails. Developers can track remote EAS Build lifecycle failures and successes using dedicated hooks configured in package.json. Performance instrumentation now supports span generation for Expo Router route prefetching as well as asset and image loading through wrapper functions around expo-image and expo-asset.
Introducing @supabase/server
Supabase is releasing @supabase/server in public beta, a package for authentication verification, client setup, request context, and common server-side boilerplate across backend runtimes. Supabase says an anonymous analysis of 25,000 deployed Edge Functions found developers repeatedly rebuilding setup for clients, JWT verification, claims parsing, CORS, auth context, and shared files. The package's withSupabase wrapper or createSupabaseContext function supplies a SupabaseContext containing a user-scoped client, service-role admin client, verified identity, JWT claims, auth metadata, and auth mode, while declarative modes cover user, none, secret, publishable, or combined access. It returns standard Request-to-Response handlers for Edge Functions, Vercel Functions, Cloudflare Workers, Hono, Bun, and Deno, and includes primitives for custom middleware and adapters. @supabase/server does not replace @supabase/ssr, which remains focused on cookie-based sessions, and the release invites feedback on its public-beta API and adapters.
Adding Benchmaxxer Repellant to the Open ASR Leaderboard
The Open ASR Leaderboard is adding private English speech-recognition datasets from Appen Inc. and DataoceanAI to evaluate scripted and conversational speech across several accents. To reduce benchmark-specific optimization (“benchmaxxing”) and test-set contamination, the datasets remain private, while the default Average WER continues to use public datasets only. A toggle exposes the private data, with macroaverages for overall, scripted, conversational, American, and non-American subsets; individual split scores are withheld to discourage provider- or accent-specific optimization. The leaderboard uses a shared Hub dataset, normalized transcripts and outputs, and open-source evaluation code, while private evaluation is run after public-set verification when models are submitted.
Introducing Application Metrics: Track the signal, see the spike, jump to the trace
Sentry launched Application Metrics to capture application signals without pre-aggregating counters or discarding high-cardinality attributes like user IDs, project IDs, and regions. The system supports counters, distributions, and gauges within the existing SDK while linking each metric event directly to trace IDs for integrated debugging. Engineers demonstrated the feature by troubleshooting a Session Replay failure that triggered silently when sessions exceeded 1,000 video segments. By instrumenting distributions for replay event counts with project and replay attributes, the team isolated seven affected occurrences, navigated to connected traces and log lines, and reproduced the issue. Application Metrics comes enabled in recent SDK versions with 5GB included per plan.
What we learned during the Custom Agents beta
Notion’s Custom Agents launched in beta in February, and more than one million agents were created in two months before the feature moved out of beta. The post reports that teams scaled fastest when they treated agents as internal products, iterated with workflow experts, and shared operational knowledge rather than relying on engineers alone. Teams also redesigned end-to-end processes, such as Braintrust’s agent that scans competitor updates and Gong transcripts, updates a Notion sales one-pager, and flags relevant launches. Usage costs fell by up to 50%, partly through lighter models including Haiku 4.5 and GPT-5.4 Mini, which use up to 10× fewer credits, while new limits, dashboards, alerts, and pause controls support administration. From May 4, usage-based pricing applies through Notion credits at $10 per 1,000 credits for Business and Enterprise plans.
Branching Without Git Is Now The Default
Supabase has made dashboard-based database branching the default for all projects, adding a GitHub-free alternative to its existing git-based workflow. Developers can create a branch from the dashboard, work in the SQL Editor or Table Editor against a separate Postgres instance, review a schema diff, and merge changes into production without Git configuration. The workflow uses pg-delta, a new schema-diffing engine in pg-toolbelt that covers tables, columns, RLS policies, functions, triggers, indexes, and extensions, replacing migra as dashboard branching’s default engine; pg-delta is alpha software and is also available in the CLI behind a flag. Git-based branching remains fully supported, and the two approaches can be switched between or used together, while branches created through the Supabase MCP server use dashboard branching automatically.

Unlocking SAP business context in Databricks with semantic metadata Delta Sharing
SAP Business Data Cloud now offers generally available semantic metadata synchronization with Databricks Unity Catalog for mounted SAP BDC Delta Shares. When a table is accessed, Unity Catalog receives table-level business-friendly display names, descriptions, context, and governance tags, while SAP BDC remains the single source of truth and subsequent changes are reflected. The capability builds on BDC Connect and Delta Sharing, allowing governed SAP data products to be discovered and combined with other enterprise sources without recreating business context or governance separately. Column descriptions, table relationships such as primary and foreign keys, and PersonalData namespace tags give Databricks AI Assistant and AI/BI Genie explicit context for natural-language questions and join-ready queries. The stated result is more understandable, discoverable, and AI-ready SAP data, with automated classification signals supporting compliance, access control, and responsible AI.
The marketing activation gap has a fix: Databricks and Stitch partner to turn data infrastructure into marketing performance
Databricks and Stitch are partnering to connect enterprise data infrastructure with marketing execution, addressing a gap that leaves campaigns dependent on stale segments, delayed data, and disconnected tools. The partnership positions Stitch as a marketing implementation layer that structures Databricks data for real-time segmentation, personalization, AI-driven decisioning, and self-service analytics while building applications and agents directly on the platform. Its work spans campaign-ready architecture, full-stack marketing applications, Genie-based access for nontechnical users, AI-powered campaign operations, and migrations from legacy platforms. Examples include real-time transaction data reaching customer marketing at a convenience-store brand, measurable campaign results within weeks for a medical testing company, and a global QSR rebuilding campaign workflows on Databricks as AI tools improve.
Alert fatigue is a business risk
Enterprise security operations centers may receive tens of thousands of alerts daily, making prioritization necessary and leaving lower-priority signals uninvestigated. Alert fatigue is presented as a data architecture problem: fragmented endpoint, network, identity, and cloud telemetry, combined with proprietary SIEM collection-and-discard practices, limits correlation and overwhelms analysts. Lakewatch proposes an open lakehouse foundation that unifies security, IT, and business telemetry, applies automated OCSF normalization, and uses Agent Bricks for data wrangling and alert triage. Databricks Genie is positioned as a natural-language AI security agent whose autonomous agents can hunt, summarize, and neutralize threats, while Unity Catalog logs queries and actions for audit and forensic purposes. Lakewatch is currently available in Private Preview.
Welcoming Diel Duarte, our new Open source Engineer
Resend introduces Diel Duarte as its new open source engineer, bringing more than 13 years of experience building web applications and SDKs. His focus is developer experience, especially API design with clean ergonomics that lets developers concentrate on building rather than wrestling with interfaces. Diel describes a path from studying programming and computer fundamentals at Cotemig to following Resend as a user and joining after an interview process he found unusually human; he cites Resend’s DX and craft, along with Zeno’s open source work, as major references. Outside work, he draws inspiration from deliberately curated feeds, new languages and APIs, visual-design communities, and creator friends, while keeping music and interior design as interests; he names Warp Terminal as his favorite tool and Japan as a memorable destination.
Approximate answers, exact decisions: New sketch functions for analytics
Databricks now supports four sketch function families, built on Apache DataSketches, for replacing expensive exact percentiles, distinct counts, set operations, top-K rankings, and metric aggregations with bounded-memory approximations. KLL sketches answer quantiles, Theta sketches support unions, intersections, and differences, approximate top-K sketches track frequent items, and Tuple sketches combine distinct counting with aggregated metrics such as customer revenue. The sketches can be built during ETL, stored as columns in Delta tables, and merged on read, allowing dashboards and streaming pipelines to avoid rescanning raw data; SQL, DataFrame, and Structured Streaming pipelines are supported. The stated trade-off is configurable 1–2% relative error, with the source citing a 1000x speedup for applicable workloads. Exact methods remain appropriate for financial auditing, compliance reporting, and other precision-required uses.
